My 15 seconds of fame. This cover features my sunflower rings and earrings made from Sculpey and Swarovski crystals. Paris, Vogue Pelle, Mar/Apr 1992
I live and work as a full-time artist in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My artwork can be considered 'modern craft'. The majority of my work is realized through ceramics and mixed-media. I am continuing to explore the idea of playing with art. I have been making series of recognizable objects such as animals, clouds, or pencils for the ‘viewer’ or participant to move and play with juxtapositions of these art objects. I love the idea of other people experiencing the joy of creating with my art. I want it to feel like fine art meets public art.
I received a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Skidmore College. After college, I worked as an artist but then turned to another passion, teaching, and got a regular, general education credential, and Art K-12. I taught for 23 years to every grade (TK-12) for Los Angeles Unified School District from 1999-2022. I still am an advocate for art integration, sketchnotes, and the pedagogy of play in every classroom. I feel I bring this philosophy into my artwork.
During the pandemic, we began to work from AirBnB’s in northern New Mexico. I love the big skies and mountains and we planned our attack to leave California and teaching, and make our new home in this ‘land of enchantment’. I was 25 the last time I lived in New Mexico (Taos), more than thirty years ago in 1993—I’ve come full circle.
Thank you for your interest in my work. I hope you find as much joy in viewing/playing with it as I do in making it and curating these experiences.
Thank you for your time.
